4 Babies + 4 Countries makes for a GREAT movie

Tonight my hubby & I had an awesome date night at the press screening of the upcoming movie BABIES! If you haven’t seen the previews yet, BABIES is a documentary following one baby from 4 different countries (USA, Japan, Mongolia & Namibia) for the first year of their lives. You might think… documentary… um – no thanks. BUT think twice! This film is really well put together and full of funny moments and heart captivating scenes.
Of course it’s great for us gals, because let’s face it, we LOVE all things baby. But my hubby who is a major action film kinda guy was surprised at how it kept his attention all the way through and he laughed out loud several times. So this is a good movie for the whole family to see.
One thing that we moms will take from the movie is the major differences in parenting methods within each culture. For those of us “westerners” who are so worried about parenting by-the-book and making sure everything is child-proof and germ free, to see the babies in Namibia and Mongolia free to roam the dusty ground, play with livestock, breastfeed while flies crawl on their face and even teething on rocks is shocking. But I LOVE how it opens your eyes to how each child clearly adapts to their environment and thrives.
To quote the film’s director, “I hope BABIES shows that no matter what their conditions are, wherever they live, these babies grow up happy as long as they are loved, and that this is universal.”
