ABC Family Concentration
With a digital camera, take pictures of family members and friends... one for each letter of the alphabet: M for Marcus, J for Jordan, B for basketball (child holding ball), D for child eating donut, etc. Make two copies of each photo. Glue each photo on to an index card. Print the designated letter on the top of the card. Play concentration with your child, taking turns flipping over two cards. Every time you flip over a card, you must name the letter. If you find a match you keep those cards. The one with the most cards at the end is the winner.

What I like to do to help each child individualy with school is at bath time I write math problems on the shower wall for them with shaving cream or the colored foam and they solve the problem with the foam! They love it! As for my 4 year old we do different colors and shapes and he tells me what they are! It is fun and easy to clean!!!!!!

bedtime
As a working mom, it was hard for the children to settle at night since we had only been home a few hours. I would take both children on my lap on the floor, and we would read a story for at least 1/2 an hour. If teeth were not brushed and baths done by 8:30, then we could not read as long. Not only did they love the lap time and the classic stories, their teachers later praised their increased vocabulary and comprehension. As teenagers, we still read together from time to time.

Daily Journals
Keep your kids reading / writing with daily journals this good for any child that can draw a picture, copy letters, write their name or older children who can write sentences. Start with todays date and weather (picures are fine for the weather). Have them copy from a white board or chalk board the days "plan", book or chapter to be read and have them write about what happened or draw a picture about it. You can also do a leter a day and the letter sounds have your child draw a picture of an "a"-thing. The uses are endless. Just be creative and keep it fun! Remember reward stickers and a Goal (a planned outing) after so many stickers. Plan a craft a week & keep it on the same day. Don't forget to schedule in time for the library each week and it is summer .... so lots of free-time fun too!

Defiance as Inspiration for Learning
Encouraging your children to read may be easier than you think. After all, literacy is empowering. Of course, you're probably thinking, "Another education slogan isn't going to encourage my children to read." Well than, perhaps this helpful hint will. When your children are small, spell words to other adults as if you were the director of the CIA carefully encoding your precious secrets. Your children are bound to inquire what you're saying. Of course, as any agent worth her salt knows, silence has its place. But I bet that when you bring out those early readers, your children will devour them like ice cream before dinner. After all, nothing quite inspires like forbidden fruit. Oh, and for those of you with older children, just remember, that nine out of ten times, that movie you don't want them to see is based on that book you would probably love for them to read. Hey, who says defiance can't inspire learning?

Educational Bubble Fun
Get one of those cheap bubble/wand sets at any toy store. When giving your toddler a bath, blow bubbles at him/her, and name the body part the bubbles stick to. Great way to keep their attention and have fun while learning body parts!

Favorite Things
Tap into your child's favorite things, and assist them in creating an online webpage filled with their own scanned images, thoughts and views. Begin with an outline, and work your way up to a site dedicated to their favorite things. It is a journey that will solidify their idea, give proof to their self expression, as well as launch more possibilities then they thought able. A web presence can be shared across miles with other family members, and is a lasting accomplishment that they can visit again and again to update as they grow in what they know.

Flannel and Magnet Board
Take an old cookie sheet (find at yard sales)and paint with nontoxic spray paint. On the outside of the cookie sheet, use a strong craft glue to glue down flannel material. Now you have a flannel board on the back and a magnetic board on the inside. Use magnetic letters and numbers sold at any dollar store. Great for practicing spelling words, working math problems, making compound words, etc. Use flannel letters, numbers, story characters, etc. If you'd prefer a chalk board, purchase chalk board spray paint and spray one side with it and use the other side as a magnet board.

Flash cards for baby's
Well being a bargain hunter, I was not going to pay almost 4.00 for a pack of ABC or First Word flash cards for my 21 month old....so I came up with the next best thing. I purchased a pack of big index cards at the store and cut up old magazines that we have around the house and some of the books he chewed on that still had pages...lol...pasted them to the white part of the card and wrote the letter and word on the back of the cards(the lined side)with a black perma marker. That way one picture could be more than just one word too. That was more fun for both of us finding the pictures and he even helped me glue some!!! He has picked up action words and colors from me thinking of this little project.

For Toddler's troubles - just ignore!!!
My daughter is 2.5 years old.
She is really very impatient baby!
When she tried to do something but it failed, she is very angry and used to yell, and cried and kicked everything badly.
At first, I used to come over and heal and comfort her . But the more I did, the more she cried. I was angry and started to cry her .. but the result is zero.
One day, I just ignore her and then she calmed herself and no more cry out or yell ... . From then on, I find that when she is still a baby or toddler, we just ignore them , they will calm down themselves.
it is really good. Try it out and you will see the result.
