  • A GOOD REMEDY I'VE READ SEVERAL TIPS WHERE PEOPLE RECOMMEND GRIPE WATER FOR COLIC IN BABIES, IT WORKS, BUT NOT MANY PEOPLE KNOW WHAT IT IS AND WHAT'S IN IT. I WOULD NEVER GIVE ANYTHING TO MY BABY THAT WASN'T SUGGESTED BY A DOCTOR WITHOUT THOROUGHLY RESEARCHING IT FIRST. I DID THAT AND MAYBE I CAN SHED SOME LIGHT ON THE SUBJECT. GRIPE WATER DOES HAVE SOME INGREDIENTS IN IT THAT ARE NOT RECOMMENDED FOR BABIES, SOME HAVE SUGAR, SOME EVEN HAVE ALCOHOL. BUT I'VE DISCOVERED THAT THE MAIN ACTIVE INGREDIENT IN GRIPE WATER IS A HERB CALLED FENNEL. IT'S BEST TO AVOID THE GRIPE WATER ALTOGETHER AND JUST USE THE FENNEL SEEDS. MAKE FENNEL TEA: 1-2 TSP OF SEEDS TO A CUP OF BOILING WATER. BOIL 10 MINUTES THEN STRAIN. LET COOL AND GIVE TO BABY IN A BOTTLE, OR IF BABY WILL NOT TAKE IT, ADD SOME TO MILK. The seeds have a pleasant, licorice-like flavor. Like many other aromatic herbs, fennel appears to relax the smooth muscle lining of the digestive tract to help expel gas. European research shows it also kills some bacteria, lending support to another of its traditional uses-to treat diarrhea. ANOTHER GREAT USE FOR FENNEL IS TO HELP INCREASE THE PRODUCTION OF MILK IN NURSING MOTHERS AND MAKE MILK MORE WHOLESOME FOR THE BABY. GOOD LUCK, HOPE THIS HELPS SOMEONE. • acidophilus, antibiotics, diaper rash, and yeast infections Do you wonder what they have in common? Well, alot. We all know that antibiotics can cause yeast infection because it kills bacteria but, did you know it also kills the good bacteria that we need to control yeast in our bodies. Children can also get a speckled diaper rash that is yeast, the doctor usually prescribes nystatin or tells you to buy athletes foot cream. Did you now that you can get better results by going to your local health food store, buying acidophilus and giving it to your child internally. This restores this good bacteria that has been killed of and brings balance back to the body. It is a powder that can be mixed in food or drink. It will not hurt them. They make it for children as well as adults. This is the same thing that you can find in most yogurt just with out the milk for those of you that can not have it. As a mother of five children and who has tried it ALL I am telling you that this has worked for us. Try It! Relif is in sight. • ALL NIGHT!!! COUGHING MY MOTHER HAD THREE KIDS SHE RAISED BY HERSELF WITH MANY HEALTH PROBLEMS [HERSELF AND THE KIDS]. MY BROTHER HAD ALOT OF RESPIRATORY PROBLEMS INCLUDING ASTHMA. SHE WAS AT HOSPITALS OR UP ALL NIGHT ALOT OF TIMES. ONE OF THE OLD TIME DOCTORS GAVE HER A EXCELLENT HOME REMEDY. SINCE MY MOM WOULD WAKE UP TO MY BROTHER NOT BREATHING AND HAVE TO RUSH HIM TO THE HOSPITAL ALL NIGHT EVERY FEW DAYS, SHE TRIED IT. MIX A SPOON OF BUTTER WITH A SPOON OF SUGAR.THEY LOVE IT AND IT GREASES THEIR AIRWAY TO MAKE THEM QUIT COUGHING AND BREATH EASIER. WHEN MY KIDS DO THAT NON STOP COUGHING USUALLY WITH ALLERGIES AND REACTIVE AIRWAY DISEASE. I USE IT AND IT WORKS. Submitted By: CHARLOTTE(Added: 15-May-2002 Hits: 0 Rating: 8.00 Votes: 3) Rate It

  • Autumn squashes Autumn squashes are absolutley delicious, full of nutrients and so easy to cook. Alot of time people tend to pass by them because they do not realize that they are not just for decoration or they do not know how to prepare them...well, with acorn squash and butternut squash, the simplest form of cooking them is to slice them in half - scoop out the seeds and dab a little butter & a sprinkle of salt on them...into a baking dish and roast for about an hour at 350 degrees. Sooooooo good and filling. Submitted By: OopzyDaizy(Added: 18-Oct-2000 Hits: 0 Rating: 0 Votes: 0) Rate It

  • bathtub safety When my son was too big for a baby bath or the sink, but still very little, he was afraid to sit in the tub, even with me holding him, because of sliding around in the large area. I solved the problem by putiing a laundry basket inside the bathtub, with a hand towel on the bottom. He felt secure inside the smaller area, and the towel kept him from sliding. He took his baths quite happily this way. Of course, NEVER leave a child unattended in a bathtub. Submitted By: Lisa Ames(Added: 10-Jul-2000 Hits: 0 Rating: 10.00 Votes: 1) Rate It

  • Bedwetting ..Drugs not necessary My son's (6 yrs old) pediatrician said he'd grow out of bedwetting. The self esteem issues, stress, laundry and overnight pants expense was TOOOO much. So, I bought an enuresis alarm (www.enuresisalarms.com). Within 6 weeks the problem was solved. My next youngest child had same issue a year later, so we used it for him (5 yrs. old) and he was cured in 8 weeks. He had recommended drugs but they don't CURE or solve the problem, just mask it. Also, they can have dangerous and lethal side effects. Info on that subject also on that web site. Submitted By: Me2(Added: 26-Jan-2005 Hits: 0 Rating: 0 Votes: 0) Rate It
