Home Eye Remedy
To begin, you pick Periwinkle petals from flowers. Then you boil petals in water and make tea and strain petals from tea. Put tea in sterile eye dropper. Wait till it is cool then drop into infected eye. Eye infection will be gone before you know it. My children and myself, and also other family members, have used this remedy very successfully.

Homemade Bandage
My 2 and 3 year have each had a burn on their arm. To hold their Telfa pad in place I cut the bottom off of one of their tube socks and slid it on their arm, over the Telfa pad. It holds it in place great and their is no adhesive to pull off.

Homemade Electrolyte Solution
Homemade Electrolyte Solution
Here is a recipe for homemade Pedialyte. It is very important for babies and children not to become dehydrated when they're sick! Use instead of juice or milk for diarrhea, vomiting, and fever. This will not aggravate a sick tummy.
2 quarts water
1-teaspoon baking soda
1-teaspoon salt
7 Tablespoons sugar
1 packet Sugar-Free Kool-Aid
1/2-teaspoon salt substitute (see below for a free sample)
The salt substitute and Kool-Aid are optional. Store in the refrigerator. Be creative; use your special Kool-Aid to make ice cubes so it will stay cool in their bottle or sippy-cup. Or, insert toothpicks into your ice cubes before freezing and make homemade popsicles.
This contains sugar; it will eventually go bad (just like regular Kool-Aid), check any that has sat for a long time.
***Infants under three months of age with a fever, or any child with a fever for more than three days must be under the care of a physician. Any child who is showing signs of severe dehydration (no saliva in his mouth, no tears when he cries, loose and sagging skin) must be under the care of a physician. DO NOT withhold formula for more than four hours, if your baby is breastfed and will take the breast, do not withhold it. DO NOT withhold solid food for more than six hours. Most important, listen to what your baby tells you!! ***

Ice Cube Wannabees
Use your old film cannisters as ice cubes for "ouches" without the dripping mess. Just fill cannisters with water, put on the lid and store in freezer.

Ice packs
For easy and cheap child size ice packs take dish sponges and cut them into small squares, get them wet and them put them into snack size glad lock bags. Then Put them into the freezer, and then whenever your child has a fall you have quick ice packs on hand. For fun you can also use different colors and cut different shapes.

In reference to the fried flour tip
I found the diaper rash/flour tip very interesting. My children are often riddled with diaper rashes that are yeast infections, and as the mom mentioned traditional cremes make it worse. I have found it very helpful to first identify a yeast diaper rash early. (Both girls and boys get them, and they look like little tiny red bumps in clusters around the anus. As they get worse, it spreads to the cheeks, and leg folds). I haven't tried the flour tip, but I will. What always works for me is to use the strongest strength anti-fungal over the counter (monostat 1, for instance - but buy the generic it works as well and is cheaper)upon every diaper change, then coat with something to keep stool and urine from washing the medicine away, like aquaphor. Continue to use for at least 3 days after the rash clears up, as the yeast stays present in stool for several days. Also note that antibiotics, even topical or eye drops can cause yeast infections, so be prepared when ever starting baby on antibiotics.

Infections
My son had a in grown toe nail and the antibiotic cream the doctor gave me did nothing. I put tea tree oil on it for a couple of nights and the infection cleared up. Tea tree oil is a life saver.

Insect stings
If you or your child is stung by a bee, wasp, etc. place a penny over the sting and attach with band-aid or tape. I did this last night after being stung by a wasp. This morning the swelling is gone and My finger is pain free.

Instant Relief
Take vapor rub and put on the child's or adult's feet all over and then put on a pair of socks. Your child won't cough for at least 8 hours. Great for the nighttime when you don't want to wake them for medicine.

Laundry Detergent
I prefer using gentle detergents to wash both of my daughter's clothes, but Dreft gets too pricey after awhile. To help save money, I use any brand that makes a hypoallergenic detergent which is always free of dyes and fragrance (such as Purex, ALL and Arm & Hammer to name a few). I also cut coupons for the various brands and then wait until there is a sale on any one of them. Most times I only pay between $2.50-$3.00 for a big container of detergent. It sounds like a lot of work but it really isn't.
