Emergency Phone Contact List
If children can recognize numbers but not letters, customize a telephone list by printing phone numbers next to snapshots of family members and pictures of police and doctors from magazines.

Field Trips
When you take your kids on an outing where there will be lots of people (zoos, theme parks, shopping), I like to take a picture of them with my digital camera. That way if they get lost, I always have an updated picture on me of them and what they are wearing.

Grandparents and Medication Safety
Seniors who are expecting young visitors should keep all medicines and vitamins in containers with child-resistant caps, not in cups or ‘reminder containers.’ After using the product always re-secure the child-resistant closure. If a child does swallow medicine or chemicals—or if you suspect a child has swallowed medicine or chemicals, call the poison center at 1-800-222-1222 immediately! The number should be posted and visible near your phones.

Home Alarm Systems
We have a Brinks Security System at our house and you can set for the door to chime when it is opened. This is an easy way to keep track of those going in and out of your house when you are there and prevent the little ones from escaping to the outdoors.

If a child gets lost
Whenever we go to the zoo, amusement park, or the like, my husband and I put a mailing label on the backs of our boys' shirts with our names (NEVER your child's) and our cell phone numbers. Just in case one of you gets lost, you can always find each other again!

Incredible Hulk no more
All of you who have used the doorknob covers that you have to squeeze, know that you have to have super human strength to get the little rubber stoppers to touch the doorknob and sometimes they still spin. They keep the kids out, but they keep you out too! Try wrapping a thick rubber band around the doorknob a couple of times. It makes the gap smaller, and both sides now grip. They still spin for the kids, but you can get into the room without ripping the cover off.

parking lot toddler
I have a 2 year old an a 8 month old. I usually put my 8 month old daughter in her car seat first. In order to keep track of my 2 year old son. I have him stand next to me and keep his hand s on the door, if the car door is dirty, I tell him to make pictures on the door and keep touching the door. this keeps him right by my side and keeps him occupied for the few minutes it takes to put my daughter in her car seat.

Pinata Safety
When filling your party pinata, fill individual goody bags for each child. Then the children can enjoy swinging without the anxiety of having to run up to fill bags. This can also eliminate children getting hit when they run in to soon. Just tell the children that once everyone has had a turn, and pinata is broken, their bag is already full and waiting.

Prevent shaving cuts on shinbone
To prevent those nasty cuts when shaving the shin, simply shave diagonally across the shin from either inside to outside or outside to inside. This technique is also handy when shaving knees. You can catch those "stray hairs" you mis while shaving straight up.
