  • Rules of the Road I don't let my kids off the street until I am certain they are fully aware of the rules of the road. I suspend priviledges for infractions too; like one day for every time I catch you with no helmet. Biking/scooting is fun but the cars are on the road, too, and they are bigger than you. All my kids are aware of this. Submitted By: Cindermella(Added: 17-Apr-2001 Hits: 0 Rating: 0 Votes: 0) Rate It

  • Safe Traveling When traveling via airlines, dress alike! The louder the better! We traveled 1/2 way around the world several times with young children. The last time, I had a tailor make matching jumpers for my two girls and me. The son and his dad wore matching outfits of the same color scheme. Color coordinating travel clothes helped: 1) make it easier for us to find each other. 2) make it obvious that we were TOGETHER. 3) If I did have to give a description of a missing child, it would have been so easy to just point to the other child and say they were wearing the exact same outfit. • Safety Reminder This isn't a tip as much as it is a reminder to always make sure your child wears a bike helmet. My son Matt was hit by a car 5 yrs ago, when he was not wearing his. He suffered a traumatic brain injury and we almost lost him. It has been a long 5 yrs. to recovering, full of lots of doctors therapists and hospitals. If he were wearing a helmet, he would have walked away with only bruises. Don't take this small precaution for granted, like I did. • Safety when away from home When my family of 6 is in a large crowded place, I make sure I carry my cell phone with me. My children know that if they get separated from the family, all they need to do is call me and tell me their location. For my younger children it is helpful to put a piece of paper in their pocket that has the number written on it. Submitted By: Kendra(Added: 23-May-2002 Hits: 0 Rating: 0 Votes: 0) Rate It

  • Toddler Safety While your toddler is in shopping cart, tie his shoelaces together. Will keep him from squirming out of seat. Submitted By: Momsmilk(Added: 2-Jun-2000 Hits: 0 Rating: 7.50 Votes: 2) Rate It

  • Toothpick Solution I keep our toothpicks in a shaker jar with a lid with large holes (like for parmesan cheese). That way, when someone needs a toothpick, they just tip it over and one comes out. Makes it safe and neat! Submitted By: Andi Robinson(Added: 27-Sep-2006 Hits: 0 Rating: 0 Votes: 0) Rate It

  • Travel Safety Poison centers now have a nationwide, toll-free emergency hotline, 1-800-222-1222. Keep the number with you when you travel. The hotline can be reached from anywhere in U.S. and automatically connects you to the closest poison center. You won't waste time in an emergency searching for the local number. • What did the man/lady say?? My daughter always asks "What did the man/lady say?", whenever a voice comes on over the loudspeaker in a grocery store. I answer appropriatly based on the current situation. Example: He said "All children must be strapped in their carts." or "Children are not allowed to grab items from shelves", or "We have very good children in the store today, please be sure and give them a sample cookie". She totally listens to my "translation" and shopping has been so much safer and pleasant. Submitted By: Shirley Hughey(Added: 12-Jun-2003 Hits: 0 Rating: 10.00 Votes: 1) Rate It
