  • Mommy's Helper This tip is for any parent who needs to do work around the house with a toddler at home. You can take your child from room to room and keep him/her entertained by having a small box of toys in each room. In the kitchen, a lower cupboard can be filled with toddler-safe kitchenware (plastic bowls, spatulas, measuring cups, etc). You can get your work done, keep an eye on your toddler, and the child can have fun. Submitted By: Laurie Scheid(Added: 18-May-2002 Hits: 0 Rating: 8.50 Votes: 2) Rate It

  • Monster Spray When my first born reached the age that he was afraid of monsters in his closet, under the bed, peeking through the windows at night. I had my son draw in a rectangle square which I drew on a piece of paper. After he colored them I took the picture and drew a big red "X" inside a circle. Then I glued the picture to a can of Glade Air freshener (I always used powder-scented). I then labeled the can "Monster Spray". After a few nights of using this spray before bedtime and a few other times of extra sprays after waking in the night, it solved the problem. A few years later when my daughters were born, when they started having these types of worries about the monsters, my son was the first to remind me to make them their own "Monster Spray". It worked for me and I have told all of my friends with young children and have found that it's a tried and true remedy...not only that, it freshens the room each night before night, night! • Monster Spray If your child is afraid of the "Monster" in his room try this. Take a squirt bottle and write Monster Spray on it in permanent marker. Fill with water and spray his room with it. When he has a so called problem with the Monster in his room he can run and get the Monster spray for you to spray and make the Monster go away. Worked everytime for my little ones. You can also use air-freshener too. You will see the tears go away. Submitted By: Laura(Added: 16-Oct-2006 Hits: 0 Rating: 0 Votes: 0) Rate It

  • movies My toddler loves the new "max and ruby" show...I have been unable to find a pre-printed vcr movie at any of our locals stores. Each morning I tape "Max and Ruby" for my child...and she has her favorite show whenever she wants to watch it! This will work for any favorite show and mommy can pop the movie in any time she needs a break! Submitted By: mary yost(Added: 8-Apr-2003 Hits: 0 Rating: 0 Votes: 0) Rate It

  • Mr. Butler Box With your children decorate a fancy box and write in bold letters, Mr. Butler Box. Tell them that the "Butler" likes to see the house clean, so he picks up all the toys they don't put away. Every morning he will give them back for five cents each. Each of the children need to have a minimal allowance each week in order to have money to save or pay Mr. Butler. This idea worked great with my little ones who didn't want to pay someone for their toys back, because they wanted to keep their money. They made sure toys were picked up when not being used. • Napkin Art Using seasonal napkins - have child cut out designs and glue to inexpensive basket. This is an introduction to collage and a great deal of fun. Kids like the results. Submitted By: Judy Griffith(Added: 16-Oct-2002 Hits: 0 Rating: 0 Votes: 0) Rate It

  • Nappy Liners To reuse nappy liners first put them in a nappy bucket with Nappy San(or Nappy Happy) over night with nappies. After that use a pillow case and put them in there otherwise the liners will tear when you put them in the washing machine and you'll only get one use out of them Submitted By: Rebecca Reader(Added: 14-Jan-2001 Hits: 0 Rating: 0 Votes: 0) Rate It

  • No Fuss Shopping Trips I have two small children (2 & 3). Shopping trips were very difficult until I happened upon a little trick. When I enter a store, my first stop is the toy section. I allow each to choose one toy that catches their interest. Most toys are packaged so you can "play with it without unpackaging it." They will be entranced with the toy for most of my shopping trip. At the end of the trip, we return the toy "for the next trip." I never buy toys for the kids when they are with me. An added bonus is, by the end of the trip, it's easy to tell whether the toy is a "short term interest toy" or a toy they will keep their interest in and it gives me ideas for birthdays, holidays, and times when mamaw or papaw just want to buy them something. • No More Monsters! After moving into a new home, my 3 year old was totally convinced the whole place was crawling with monsters, ESPECIALLY his bedroom! Every night my husband & I went through the rigorouse routine of trying to convince him that a big scarey monster was NOT under his bed & that it was safe for him to go to sleep. But no matter what we said, to him the monster lived. So one night, about 2 1/2 hours past my son's bedtime, I decided to get down on his level. I grabbed a little toy fishing net & a black garbage bag & told him we were going to catch that monster & let him outside. It was a dramatic feat for my son, crawling under AND over the bed, chasing it across the bedroom floor, swooshing it up in the net & barely having time to stuff it into the bag. We were exhausted, yet victorious & that big old monster was on his way to live a happier life out of doors. My son thought it a great adventure & hasn't complained about the monster since. • No more Pacifier! Want to wean your child from using a pacifier? This worked for me: just snip a hole in the end of the pacifier! My daughter tried to suck on it, but only got air. She tried it a few more times before literally throwing it away! Problem solved! Submitted By: shelley(Added: 18-Apr-2005 Hits: 0 Rating: 0 Votes: 0) Rate It

  • Old Shower Curtains Don't toss out a shower curtain that's worn out. Save it to use as a drop cloth for painting or put under baby's high chair to keep the floor clean. Let the kids play with finger-paints and playdoh on the shower curtain spread on the floor. Submitted By: sarah(Added: 8-Apr-2001 Hits: 0 Rating: 10.00 Votes: 1) Rate It

  • Paint the Cozy Coupe Another rainy day activity with that cozy coupe and other large yard toys: A new paint job! I just fill a bowl with water and add some food coloring, give the kids a paint brush and let then give the car (house, slide) a new coat of paint. It doesn't stain clothes if it is diluted enough. The rain rinses it all away and the kids are having extra fun getting extra wet. Submitted By: Colleen U.(Added: 20-Mar-2001 Hits: 0 Rating: 0 Votes: 0) Rate It

  • Painting the walls Ingredients for fun: one small roller paint brush 1 bucket of water *paint the cement around the house - the driveway - the fence - and eachother with water! • Paper Chainlink I was getting desperate because my son, while using the toilet for number 1 for a year, he absolutely refused to use it for # 2. I tried all kinds of tricks, promises, punishments with no result. I knew he had it under control, because he would always seek a place to hide, before messing in his pants. Then someone told me about this trick, and within two days(!!!) he joyfully and continuously began using the toilet for #2: I taped a construction paper link to the bathroom ceiling. I told him I would add a link for everytime he uses the toilet for bms and when he could reach the chain by only standing on his tippy toes, then we would buy any toy he wanted. I precut several different colored strips. Proud to say that my son is now FULLY potty trained! Submitted By: Heide Kaminski(Added: 24-Aug-2001 Hits: 0 Rating: 10.00 Votes: 1) Rate It
